About me

freelance illustrator

Björn aka Grim Cholski

Hi there! My name is Björn Pacholski, also known as Grim Cholski. Born in 1983 and living in Genk, Belgium. I am a freelance illustrator and professionally active as a graphic designer & webdesigner for my own company: Pixel Noir.

Some history

I started drawing as soon as I could hold a pencil. In my early years I loved drawing (copy) stuff I liked: Looney Tunes, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Ghostbusters, Batman, Spider-man, shoes (yes, I was addicted to basketball shoes :P)...

Unfortunately, during my teenage year, I lost the passion for drawing, focusing more on music, making a lot of noise in metal bands on my bass guitar. In my early 20s I started with photography, moving on to graphic & web design. Luckily, during my early 30s my love for drawing came back.

Tools & inspiration

I use traditional and digital techniques to create my illustrations.
Traditional: pencil, fineliners, aquarelle, ecoline and color pencils.
Digital: a iPad Pro, a Wacom Intuos Pro tablet, Procreate, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.

Artists whom I like and inspire me: Tim Burton, Edward Gorey, Charles Addams, Dr. Seuss, Gris Grimly, John Kenn Mortensen, Teemu Juhani, Skottie Young, Bruce Timm, Darwyn Cooke, Dean Yeagle... I’m also a big fan of rubber hose animation, an animation style from the thirties and Stop-motion (I ❤ Laika Studio’s).

In 2018 one of my illustrations was chosen to feature on a cartoon festival in my hometown Genk. It was a real honor to have an illustration presented next to other great Belgian cartoonists like Knarr, Jee Kast, Kim...
